They say, “Time flies when you’re having fun”, and at Morton Consulting we are doing just that but also working hard. Every industry has their season. Tax Accountants rarely leave the office beginning at the New Year through April 15th, Tourism booms during the summer months, and Retail season kicks off with Black Friday in the rush to get ready for the holidays. These are only a few examples, but for Morton Consulting, the seasons are continuously changing and can sometimes be unpredictable. Our inventory of Job Orders rises and falls with the demand, workload, and changing seasons at each of our clients across many different industries.
As with any business, there are times throughout the year when things are slower. In past years we’ve experienced slow periods at the beginning of the year, during Spring Break weeks, July 4th week, and between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. After blinking and realizing it’s almost June, I look back over the first five months of 2014 and I’m not sure we’ve ever been this busy. When exciting things are happening with our customers, exciting opportunities are presented to Morton Consulting. I’m going to highlight some of the trends and shifts Morton Consulting has seen so far in 2014.
- Healthcare – with our strong background in Healthcare, it’s only natural that a quarter of our business is within the Healthcare industry and it’s only growing. For those that work for healthcare, insurance, hospital, or medically focused organizations, you have been busy this year. A significant portion of our demand has come from the Healthcare space and it’s not entirely focused around the Affordable Care Act. We’ve seen customers diversifying their businesses by entering new verticals and others that are transforming traditional methods into service models that can offer growth opportunities for many years to come. With all of the changes in Healthcare there are some pretty awesome opportunities for innovation and creativity. The activity in this industry has proven to create significant demand for candidates with experience in healthcare ranging from .NET Developers to a skilled Doctor or Nurse.
- Integration / Acquisition / Redesign based Projects – for the past 12 months, we’ve seen many of our customers invest in and launch high profile, large scale efforts to integrate platforms or systems, convert or transform systems after large acquisitions, and decide to redesign entire systems in an effort to align them towards business goals. We have customers who have created a global presence through acquisition and others whose strategy is to acquire new businesses which requires the integration of their systems. The activity Morton Consulting is seeing on large-scale business focused programs has been incredible. It’s created many opportunities to align our processes with the resourcing strategies of our customers in an effort to contribute to the successful execution of critical projects.
- Advisory Services – at the beginning of 2014, we discovered a need in the market for higher level services focused on the leadership and execution of corporate technology strategies. We view this offering benefiting two different types of prospects. The first would be a rapidly growing company or organization in the early stages of growth that hasn’t yet seen the need for a full-time Chief Information Officer but is in need for that level of guidance, leadership, and direction. The second is a larger corporation with an IT leadership team in place; however there might be a missing piece or an opportunity for advisory services focused around processes, best practices, strategic planning, or assessments. Morton Consulting has seen some success in this space already this year and we are excited to continue supporting our customer base with this unique service.
This year is off to an exciting start and the team at Morton Consulting is amped up to see what the remainder of 2014 holds. There are very exciting things happening in our market and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are excited to be a part of this technology community and I’m sure in no time we will all blink and it will be December.
