After more than seven years at Morton Consulting, David Borovatz has done it all. He started as an account exec and now, as director of operations, he still works directly with clients and consultants, responds to requests for proposals, makes cold calls, pitches new clients, makes presentations, supports customers, and manages the recruiting team. And he loves it.
“I love finding hard-to-find consultants for jobs with extra challenges, such as short deadlines, security clearances, unique skill sets and environments. Then exceeding the customer’s expectations and building trust and confidence,” David said. “We need to understand not just the technical requirements, but personality and behavioral stuff. I feel confident we can make it work.”
“David has become a key part of our operations,” says president Mark Morton. “I can ask him to do anything. Most of the time, I don’t even have to ask, because he’s already on it. He’s been an important factor in the growth of Morton Consulting.”
David feels he embodies the Morton ethos, that the consultants and contractors are clients as much as the employers are. With IT unemployment around 2.9 percent and software unemployment around 1.9 percent, “if we don’t foster those relationships, it’s really hard to attract talent. We want to establish a relationship and rapport.”
Early in his career, David had an opportunity to talk to a consultant whose contract was running out, but who hadn’t heard from his agency about another gig. “He was worried about how he was going to take care of his family, how he was going to pay his rent. Hearing his frustration really stuck with me. We try to make sure they feel they’re part of the Morton family.”
When David isn’t at work, it’s his wife and two young children first. “My weekends are fully dedicated to my family. I value time with my kids. Watching sports, playing in the backyard. Life is short. Every moment is valuable.”
David is a Virginia Tech alumnus, enjoys college football and basketball, and golf. His handicap? “My handicap is I enjoy golf and having fun.”
