Morton Consulting at Venture Creation Competition hosted by VCU
Last week, Virginia Commonwealth University hosted their 3rd annual Venture Creation Competition where undergraduate and graduate students competed for funding in hopes to turn their ideas into actually businesses. Mark Morton, President of Morton Consulting, was honored to be one of the judges this year alongside some of Richmond’s most influential business leaders. The event was awesome this year with 40 total written pitches that were reviewed by all judges where the top 10 finalists had the opportunity to compete last week on April 23rd.
The top 10 teams were divided into two divisions, one for undergraduates and another for graduates, and they each had 20 minutes to present their business ideas in hopes for funding. The top 10 teams had some very impressive ideas and business plans which we are excited to see move forward into actual local businesses. As an avid fan of “Shark Tank” on ABC, Mark enjoyed being a part of the 14 person team of panelists who graded each finalist and ultimately awarded undergraduate and graduate winners.
Most of the ideas and business plans presented have significant potential and Morton Consulting wishes each participate the best in the future. Notable winners include an Online Social Shopping Platform in the graduate division and a Cushion that prevents bedsores in the undergraduate division. Morton Consulting is very excited to be a part of the growing business world in Richmond, Virginia.
